Corebridge Study Links Life Insurance to Peace of Mind

Life Insurance Owners Feel Secure About Their Family’s Future

Corebridge Financial Highlights How Life Insurance Supports Wellbeing Ahead of Awareness Month

New research from Corebridge Financial highlights a powerful connection between life insurance and peace of mind. Almost half of Americans who have life insurance (47%) say they feel at peace knowing their loved ones would be financially secure if something happened to them. In contrast, only 28% of people without coverage share that same sense of reassurance.. By contrast, almost one-third of uninsured Americans admit they are “not at all confident” their families could manage financially.

“Life insurance can help protect families against the unexpected and provide a foundation for dreams and plans to carry forward,” said Eric Tarnow, Head of Life Insurance at Corebridge. “Life is unpredictable, but securing coverage today ensures financial protection for tomorrow.”

Despite this, many Americans remain uninsured—50% report not having life insurance at all, often because of misperceptions about cost. Corebridge’s survey found that people consistently overestimate premiums, with many believing coverage costs three times more than it actually does. For about the cost of a streaming subscription, a healthy 30-year-old can lock in a $250,000, 20-year term life insurance policy—just $13 a month for lasting peace of mind.

Technology is also reshaping access to coverage. Nearly three-quarters of respondents said they’d be more likely to purchase life insurance if approval could be granted online within 24 hours. Today, thanks to digital applications and accelerated underwriting, many policies can be issued quickly sometimes within a single day, and often without the need for medical exams.

Beyond protecting loved ones, modern life insurance offers living benefits that many Americans value highly, such as covering emergencies, supporting long-term care costs, or building tax-advantaged cash value. These features align closely with top financial concerns, including retirement readiness and rising healthcare expenses.

Corebridge’s research revealed an important gap: while many people understand why they need life insurance, the amount of coverage they actually choose often doesn’t match their real needs.. Many select policy sizes based only on affordability or final expenses, leaving gaps in areas such as mortgage payoff, children’s education, or long-term income replacement.

“As Life Insurance Awareness Month begins, it’s a perfect time to revisit coverage needs and explore the wide range of options available today,” Tarnow added. “The protections offered by life insurance go far beyond the basics, and they can play an essential role in a family’s long-term financial plan.”
