Gen Acquires Trellis to Expand AI Insurance Marketplace

Gen, a global technology company focused on empowering digital freedom, has announced the acquisition of Trellis, a technology platform designed to simplify and automate the process of shopping for insurance. By bringing Trellis into its ecosystem, Gen plans to strengthen the capabilities of its embedded financial marketplace platform, Engine by Gen, and deliver more personalized insurance solutions through its network of financial services partners.

Engine by Gen operates as an embedded marketplace that helps consumers navigate financial products more easily. The platform connects users with real-time recommendations for services such as credit, savings, and other financial offerings by integrating these options directly into mobile apps, websites, and digital platforms where consumers already interact. By matching individuals with relevant financial products based on their needs and profiles, the platform aims to simplify decision-making in areas that are often complex and time-consuming.

Insurance is one of the financial categories where consumers frequently experience confusion. Comparing policies across different providers can involve multiple applications, complicated pricing models, and limited transparency. Through the acquisition of Trellis, Gen aims to make the insurance buying process easier and more personalized by integrating advanced matching technology into its marketplace platform.

Travis Witteveen, General Manager of Gen’s Trust-Based Solutions division, described Trellis as a natural addition to the company’s financial product ecosystem. According to Witteveen, Engine already provides personalized recommendations across several financial services categories. By incorporating Trellis’ AI-powered automation and matching capabilities, the platform will be able to deliver more intelligent insurance recommendations tailored to each user’s situation.

Trellis brings its Savvy platform to the integration, which uses machine learning, real-time marketplace bidding, and conversational artificial intelligence to power digital insurance experiences. These technologies help connect consumers with the most suitable insurance providers by analyzing personal data and market conditions. The goal is to create a more transparent and efficient insurance shopping experience while helping consumers make better-informed decisions.

Daniel Demetri, founder of Trellis, noted that artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in the way people search for and purchase insurance. Consumers now expect faster services, personalized recommendations, and trustworthy guidance when evaluating financial products online. By joining Gen, Trellis will be able to expand its AI-driven marketplace technology within Engine’s ecosystem, benefiting from the large volume of inquiries generated through the platform each year.

The acquisition also supports Gen’s broader strategy of transforming Engine into a comprehensive marketplace for financial wellness solutions. Through this platform, Gen aims to help businesses integrate financial services—such as loans, credit products, savings tools, and insurance—directly into the digital journeys of their customers. This embedded finance approach allows companies to offer relevant financial solutions at the moment when users need them most.

Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, Gen confirmed that the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results. Instead, the focus of the transaction is on strengthening the capabilities of the Engine platform and expanding its range of personalized financial services.

With the addition of Trellis, Gen continues to invest in technologies that make financial products easier to discover and compare. By combining AI-driven insurance matching with its existing embedded marketplace infrastructure, the company aims to provide consumers and partners with smarter, more efficient financial experiences.
