Brex Gets EU License, Fuels Next Stage of Global Growth

Bolsters Position as the Only Financial Platform that Works Everywhere Customers Operate

Brex, the intelligent finance platform, just hit a major milestone it’s officially secured its Payment Institution (PI) license in the European Union, through the Netherlands. This move is a big leap forward in Brex’s mission to support high-growth businesses around the world, especially in the regions where they already operate.

With this license in hand, Brex can now directly serve companies across the entire EU offering commercial credit cards, direct debits, credit transfers, and more all without the extra friction. And the expansion isn’t stopping here. Brex is already exploring a separate license to better serve U.K.-based customers in the near future.

The demand is already there. Brex currently supports 1,500 customers with EU operations, and nearly half of all Brex customers work across multiple countries. Until now, those customers had to be U.S.-based to get the most out of the platform — but that’s about to change.

Soon, European-based businesses will get full access to Brex’s all-in-one toolkit: corporate cards, expense management, and treasury tools — all designed to simplify global financial operations.

“Over the last seven years, we’ve built payments infrastructure that works in more than 200 countries and over 60 currencies,” said Pedro Franceschi, CEO and Co-Founder of Brex. “This license takes us one step further — now we can give EU businesses the same seamless, locally-accepted experience as our U.S. customers.”

Unlike many competitors who depend on third parties and support only a handful of currencies, Brex runs on its own global payments infrastructure. This means a truly integrated solution for companies that think and operate internationally.

One customer already seeing the benefits is Ooni, the global pizza oven leader with teams in the U.K., Germany, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the U.S.

“One of the big draws of Brex was its global platform one system employees can use from anywhere,” said Mark Topping, Group Finance Manager at Ooni. “It’s made spend management simple and helped us move away from scattered systems.”

Brex plans to onboard select EU customers in the coming months, with a full rollout expected by early 2026. To make that happen, they’ve already set up shop in the Netherlands with a dedicated local team — and more hires are on the way.

“We’re incredibly proud of what this unlocks — not just for Brex, but for the founders and finance teams we support around the globe,” Franceschi added. “And this is just the beginning.”
