This powerful industry collaboration highlights how mobile networks, APIs, and AI can transform banking

Vonage, a part of Ericsson, has announced its participation in the World Banking Forum in Athens alongside leaders from Aduna, Deutsche Telekom, and mBank. The global event brings together senior banking executives and technology innovators to explore how modern technology is reshaping the future of financial services.

As the rise of digital banking continues, so does the sophistication of cybercrime. Fraud and identity theft have become more advanced with the growth of technologies like AI. Experts estimate that cybercrime damages could reach nearly $11.9 trillion annually by 2026, highlighting the urgent need for banks to adopt stronger fraud prevention strategies and meet tightening regulatory standards.

During the forum, Aduna, Deutsche Telekom, mBank, and Vonage will discuss how the convergence of 5G, network APIs, and AI can help banks enhance security and deliver smoother, safer customer experiences. The collaboration aims to show how embedding mobile network intelligence directly into banking applications can dramatically improve fraud detection and prevention.

By using network APIs, banks can access verified, real-time network data that was previously out of reach. This capability allows for seamless customer authentication while intelligently reducing fraud. Aduna, a joint venture between major telecom players including Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson, acts as an aggregator of network capabilities. Vonage then provides developers access to these tools through its APIs and SDKs, enabling them to build innovative fraud prevention solutions.

Fraud remains one of the biggest challenges facing the financial sector. Staying ahead of evolving threats requires collaboration and innovation across industries.

“The collaboration between telcos, aggregators, and developer platform partners is crucial,” said Peter Arbitter, Chief Commercial Officer at Aduna. “Aduna’s role as an aggregator allows developer platforms to access telco network capabilities and drive the development of secure, next-generation banking services.”

David Darmon, Vice President of International Sales, API at Vonage, added, “Vonage Network APIs provide a foundation for banks to automate verification and fraud protection processes at scale. This helps financial institutions safeguard revenue and enhance the customer experience.”
