Nuvei has taken another major step forward in modernizing payments in Europe, announcing that its eCommerce merchants have begun processing transactions through Wero the new digital wallet created by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). Designed for fast, secure account-to-account payments, Wero is set to play a transformative role in how consumers pay and how merchants get paid across the region.
Nuvei was among the first companies to successfully complete a Wero transaction earlier this year in a controlled testing environment. Now, it is one of the first processors to bring real merchant transactions online. Through Wero, shoppers can pay instantly and securely straight from their bank accounts using SEPA Instant Credit Transfer rails, completing payments in just seconds.

For merchants, Wero offers a combination of speed, lower costs, and improved customer experience. Giving consumers another trusted local payment option can directly increase sales—nearly 60% of Europeans say they’re more likely to complete a purchase when their preferred local method is available. And industry research continues to show that a broader mix of payment options reduces cart abandonment and can improve conversion rates by as much as 20%, while also strengthening customer loyalty.
The momentum behind Wero is already impressive. With more than 46 million users across Europe and over 100 million peer-to-peer transactions processed—worth more than five billion euros—the digital wallet is positioned to become a mainstream payment method for both everyday transfers and online purchases.

Phil Fayer, Nuvei Chair and CEO, said the Wero launch is another strong example of Nuvei helping merchants meet evolving consumer expectations: “Consumers expect flexibility, speed, and security at checkout, and Wero delivers on all three. Going live with Wero reflects our commitment to providing merchants with the most advanced and locally relevant payment methods through a single integration. We’re proud to support European businesses like CamperDays as they enhance their customer experience and build trust.”
EPI CEO Martina Weimert echoed this sentiment, calling the milestone an important moment for Europe’s payment ecosystem. She noted that Wero not only simplifies payments for consumers but also offers merchants a cost-efficient alternative to traditional cards—supporting the long-term goal of strengthening Europe’s financial independence.

CamperDays, a leading online campervan rental platform, is one of the first merchants using Wero through Nuvei. Managing Director Max Schmidt said the new payment option aligns perfectly with the company’s mission to make travel booking fast and secure. “Offering more choice at checkout helps us meet diverse customer preferences and deliver the best possible booking experience,” he added.
The rollout further expands Nuvei’s already extensive portfolio of alternative payment methods, giving merchants across Europe a seamless way to offer localized, consumer-preferred options through a single integration.
