Fujitsu Limited and Sony Bank, Inc. have announced that generative AI is now being integrated into the development of Sony Bank’s next-generation core banking system, which is built on Fujitsu’s core banking solution. The integration began in September and represents a major step forward in how financial institutions design and optimize their core systems.
Earlier this year, in May 2025, Sony Bank completed a full cloud migration of all its systems with the deployment of a cloud-native core banking platform powered by Fujitsu. This transition significantly improved the bank’s operational flexibility, scalability, and responsiveness to customer needs.

The latest initiative marks the start of a broader move toward creating an AI-driven development ecosystem within Sony Bank’s cloud-native environment. By April 2026, Fujitsu and Sony Bank plan to apply generative AI across all core banking system development projects, establishing what they aim to be Japan’s most advanced AI utilization model for financial system development.
Tatsuya Fukushima, Corporate Executive Officer at Sony Bank, said the collaboration reflects the bank’s mission to deliver new value through technology. “Integrating generative AI into our core banking development is about more than boosting efficiency it’s about enabling more flexible, agile, and customer-focused services. Combining our cloud-native foundation with cutting-edge AI is a major step toward redefining the future of financial services.”
Masaru Yagi, Corporate Executive Officer and SEVP at Fujitsu Limited, highlighted the significance of extending their partnership following the successful rollout of Sony Bank’s next-generation digital system. “This marks the official launch of our vision for an AI-driven development ecosystem. By infusing Fujitsu’s AI expertise into Sony Bank’s core operations, we can accelerate development speed and elevate service delivery.”

As part of the initiative, the companies will first apply generative AI to development and testing processes. They will leverage Fujitsu’s proprietary knowledge graph-enhanced RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) technology, which improves AI accuracy by mapping relationships within large datasets. Over time, the use of generative AI will expand into every development phase—from management and requirements definition to operations and maintenance.

Fujitsu and Sony Bank anticipate that the AI-enabled workflows will reduce development time by approximately 20%. The entire initiative will be executed on AWS, enhancing scalability, security, and overall development efficiency. By maximizing the strengths of Fujitsu’s core banking solution and AWS integration, both companies aim to build a highly advanced, AI-enabled development ecosystem capable of delivering continuous quality improvements and rapid innovation cycles.
