Persona Launches AI-Powered Candidate Verification Tool

Persona-Launches-Candidate-Verification-to-Stop-Hiring-Fraud-Before-Day-One

Persona, a global identity verification platform for businesses, has introduced a new Candidate Verification solution designed to confirm the real-world identities of job applicants during critical stages of the hiring process. The new offering integrates directly with popular applicant tracking systems such as Ashby, Greenhouse, and Workday, allowing recruiters and security teams to verify candidate identities without disrupting existing hiring workflows.

The launch comes at a time when the hiring landscape is rapidly evolving. Recruiting teams are dealing with significantly higher application volumes, making it increasingly difficult to thoroughly review each candidate profile. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence have made it easier for bad actors to create fake resumes, fabricate job histories, and even use deepfake technology during interviews. These trends have created an environment where fraudulent applicants can blend in more easily, especially when hiring teams are under pressure to move quickly.

Industry analysts warn that this challenge will continue to grow. Research from Gartner suggests that by 2028, one in four candidate profiles globally could be fake. Cybersecurity firms have also reported that hundreds of Fortune 500 companies unknowingly hired individuals posing as remote workers linked to North Korean operations over the past several years. These incidents highlight how the hiring pipeline can become an overlooked security vulnerability before standard IT protections are applied.

For recruiting teams already managing heavy workloads, identifying potential fraud adds another layer of complexity. Security teams face a similar challenge, as hiring systems often exist outside the typical security infrastructure used to monitor employee access. Persona’s new solution is designed to address this gap by bringing identity verification directly into the recruitment process.

Natalie Disraeli, Head of Talent at Persona, explained that hiring teams should be focused on evaluating candidates rather than questioning whether applicants are genuine. According to Disraeli, confirming identity early in the process allows recruiters to spend more time engaging with qualified candidates and making informed hiring decisions.

The Candidate Verification system works by confirming that the person applying for a role is real, physically present, and consistent throughout the hiring journey. Candidates complete the verification process through a mobile-friendly interface that typically takes only a few seconds. Persona verifies identity by matching a government-issued identification document with a live selfie captured during the session. This process is supported by additional signals such as device intelligence, behavioral data, and network information to detect potential anomalies in real time.

The platform uses adaptive verification workflows that automatically adjust based on factors such as session risk levels and the candidate’s geographic location. Recruiters receive the verification status and supporting context directly within their applicant tracking system, allowing them to evaluate identity verification alongside other candidate information.

Persona’s Candidate Verification also provides broad global coverage. The system supports government-issued ID verification in more than 200 countries and territories and is available in over 40 languages. The technology combines document authentication and real-time liveness detection with behavioral analysis to identify potential impersonation attempts or deepfake manipulation during the hiring process.

Privacy and compliance are also central components of the platform. The system includes configurable options for data retention, redaction, and information management to help organizations meet HR and regulatory requirements when handling candidate data.

Beyond recruitment, Persona’s approach is designed to extend identity verification across the entire employee lifecycle. Instead of verifying identity only at onboarding, the identity established during hiring can carry through to employee provisioning, system access, and ongoing authentication throughout a person’s employment.

Candidate Verification is part of Persona’s broader Workforce Identity platform, which integrates with identity and access management tools such as Okta and Cisco Duo, as well as HR systems and enterprise IT infrastructure. This unified framework helps organizations maintain consistent identity verification from the moment a candidate applies for a job through their entire time with the company.

Christie Kim, Chief Operating Officer at Persona, noted that as application volumes continue to rise and AI tools become more sophisticated, verifying identity earlier in the hiring process will become increasingly important. According to Kim, the company has already seen strong results using the technology internally to prevent fraudulent applicants. As awareness grows, she expects identity verification to become a standard part of hiring and workforce management practices.

By integrating identity verification directly into recruiting systems, Persona aims to help organizations close a growing security gap in the hiring process while improving efficiency for talent acquisition teams.
