Cross River Bank (“Cross River”), a leading technology infrastructure provider known for powering embedded financial solutions, has expanded its card program capabilities with the launch of its fully proprietary, in-house card processing engine. With this development, Cross River becomes one of the few financial institutions to own an end-to-end card technology stack from issuing to processing giving fintechs unparalleled control, speed, and compliance across the card ecosystem.

Aion Financial Technologies (“Aion”) will serve as the pilot partner for the new processing platform, using it to support its checking accounts, payments, and debit card offerings.

Cross River’s new in-house processing engine introduces real-time fraud monitoring, customizable fraud rules, bank-grade compliance, detailed user spend analytics, global transaction mapping, API-driven settlement and reconciliation, and built-in tools designed to quickly resolve transaction failures. The system has been validated by both Mastercard and Visa, confirming its readiness for large-scale, modern financial operations.

Andrew Lambert, Head of Product at Cross River, emphasized that the integration creates a true full-stack experience: partners can now launch debit, credit, or prepaid card programs with complete flexibility. He noted that instant virtual card creation, dynamic spend controls, and real-time intelligence give fintechs the power to tailor card programs directly around customer needs.

Lynn Chen, Head of Fintech Solutions, highlighted that integrating processing directly into the bank’s core allows clients to fully own the payments experience while maintaining regulatory-grade security and compliance. This unified setup means companies can build, customize, and scale their payments ecosystem entirely through Cross River or alongside existing processors a level of optionality uncommon in today’s fintech landscape.

For Aion, integrating processing directly within its bank relationship is expected to reduce operational costs and complexity. Aion Founder and CEO Satish Palvai said that Cross River’s new engine will enable the company to deliver more sophisticated and efficient card programs, improving control over corporate spending and simplifying daily financial workflows for businesses.
