Amscot Financial, one of Florida’s most recognized providers of community-based financial services, has announced a new partnership with Green Dot Corporation to bring more affordable, modern banking options to millions of customers across the state. Through Green Dot’s embedded finance platform, Arc, Amscot will now offer demand deposit accounts (DDAs) that give customers access to seamless digital banking tools, a secured credit card, and a nationwide network of more than 25,000 fee-free ATMs.

For Amscot, the partnership is an important step in expanding financial access for hardworking Floridians. Founder and CEO Ian MacKechnie said the mission has always been to provide safe, reliable financial services that people can depend on. “This partnership with Green Dot advances our mission by enhancing accessibility to modern, affordable banking options that help our customers build strong financial foundations,” he shared.

The need for these expanded services is clear. According to recent FDIC data, more than 19 million U.S. households were underbanked in 2023—meaning that even if they have a bank account, they rely heavily on nonbank services to meet basic financial needs. With more than 230 locations, Amscot has long been a lifeline for these customers, offering everything from check cashing and bill payments to regulated cash advances. Now, with Green Dot’s technology, those same customers will have access to everyday banking tools that can help them move closer to long-term financial stability.

Green Dot, which has spent more than 25 years building a platform designed for underserved and low-to-moderate-income consumers, sees this partnership as a natural extension of its mission. “We deliver the value, convenience and flexibility this financially stretched group needs to manage their money,” said Jamison Jaworski, senior vice president and general manager of Green Dot’s consumer division. “We’re proud to partner with Amscot to enhance the banking experience for their customers with modern, comprehensive digital banking tools that simplify and enhance their financial lives.”

Amscot already participates in the Green Dot Network, one of the nation’s largest retail-based cash access programs, which includes more than 90,000 locations across the U.S. The network allows customers to deposit or withdraw cash at major retailers such as Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS. As more brick-and-mortar bank branches close particularly in historically underserved communities—the reach of this network has become more essential. Today, 96% of the U.S. population lives within three miles of a Green Dot Network location, making it one of the most accessible financial infrastructures in the country.

Together, Amscot and Green Dot aim to close the gaps that have long prevented underbanked consumers from reaching financial stability. By pairing Amscot’s deep community presence with Green Dot’s banking technology, the partnership brings customers not just access but real opportunity to build stronger financial futures.
